Do I need a music lawyer before signing a contract?

It is advisable to obtain specialist advice before signing a recording, publishing, management, producer or other music industry agreement. We can explain the terms, identify potential problems and assist with negotiations.

Can you review and negotiate a record deal?

Who owns the copyright in a song?

Ownership will depend on who created the work and any agreements or assignments that have been made.

Can you help with music publishing agreements?

Yes. We advise songwriters and composers on publishing, co-publishing and administration agreements, including advances, royalty splits, & copyright ownership.

What should be included in an artist management agreement?

Important provisions include the manager's duties, commission, expenses, exclusivity, contract length, termination rights and any commission payable after the management relationship ends.

Can you advise producers and remixers?

Yes. We advise on producer, mixer and remixer agreements, including fees, royalty points, songwriting contributions, credits, master ownership and accounting.

What can I do if I am owed music royalties?

We can review the relevant contracts and accounting information, identify potential underpayments or unpaid royalties and advise on the appropriate steps to recover sums that may be due.

Can I use a sample from another song?

Using a sample may require permission from different parties. We can advise on copyright, sample clearance and licensing.

Do you advise on AI and music copyright?

Yes. We advise on developing legal and contractual issues involving AI-generated music, copyright, training data, synthetic voices, digital likeness and the commercial use of AI in music.
